A Hard, Merciless Light. The Worker-Photography Movement, 1926-1939 examines the period during the history of 20th century photography in which photography joined forces with various worker movements (ranging from trade unionism to the creation of “workers' states” like the Soviet one), motivated by growing working-class consciousness and the idea of taking over the means of production and reproduction of images. By looking at the artistic avant-garde in its interconnection with the political avant-garde, this exhibition challenges hegemonic historiography that focuses primarily on other movements arising in the history of photography, such as the New Vision. The exhibition displaces the importance of mechanical vision and instead considers photography's relationship with social movements, shifting the debate toward photography as a document. It presents photographs (many of which are vintage copies), films and other documents, with special attention being paid to periodicals, the fundamental medium for the circulation of images and the ideas associated with them during these years.

Catalina Bauer "Celosías" (Lattices)

Catalina Bauer "Celosías", was exhibited at "As much as possible", an exhibition curated by Luisa Fuentes Guaza that invites reflection on our ability to adapt and change our immediate environment to the extent that we inhabit.

Catalina Bauer's work illustrates a consistent preoccupation with daily routine and working lives, through the use of everyday materials, to dramatic and sublime effect.
With a clear interest in process and transformation, Bauer focuses on a specific and functional, yet sensorially pleasing material for each work. She then sets about applying a series of hand-worked manipulations, often painstaking, labour intensive processes, transforming objects and so granting them new life.
These works incorporate natural elements, inferring a notion of temporality and change, with objects of industrial production, with the intent of finding some kind of poetic balance between the two. Catalina Bauer lives and works in Santiago, Chile.

The exhibition in Córdoba called PARADEISOS show us contemporary art works of different Spanish artists and their particular link to the oil world. As a curiosity we also can see a piece of Joseph Beuys "Difesa della natura" composed of bottles of Italian olive oil of 1984. Many of the works have been produced recently because of the exhibition curated by Óscar Fernández López and Michel Hubert Lépicouche.The exhibition has been produced by Diputación de Córdoba and Fundación Provincial de Artes Plásticas Rafael Botí. It can be visited at Palacio de la Merced, venue of Diputación de Córdoba, until the 31 of January of 2011.
